Encourage Utility Companies to bury their wires
I believe that every town in America exemplifies it's character and uniqueness in a variety of ways. Yet I am always struck by the constant eye-sores that utility lines and poles create.
I would like to start a movement to encourage the utility companies bury all of their lines.
The first and most apparent reason is the aesthetic uplift it will offer every town by removing the poles and wires that obstruct you view in every direction. As a photographer, I am hard-pressed to photograph a significant piece of architecture without the busying details of overhead wires laid out in all direction.
The second reason is that I believe that there are people who wish to do harm to America and our electrical grid is a prime target for creating a catastrophic event. Currently, one of our Homeland Security fears is that a weapon will be release off shore from a vessel that will detonate above our atmosphere and fry our electrical grid. If this occurs over the metropolitan area there will have to be a huge migration to the unaffected parts of the country.
What can we do without power?
This issue is timely because the utility companies are currently planning, and have already started, to put solar panels on top of the existing poles throughout the country. This will continue to blemish the cityscape everywhere and I'm sure the utility bills will not go down.
I've never heard anyone discuss this topic. I would like to know what you think.
Need a photo to embellish the idea? Just look out of your window.

This is a great idea. There are already advocates in the UK pushing this forward.
